"Those who dance are thought to be quite insane by the ones who don't hear the music."
-Friedrich Nietzsche
Michael V. Novak has been described as "the charismatic leader of a group of pilgrims from the U.S." He has also been told in several other nations that his youth group is the most powerful group in the world. There are stories to back up this claim which have nothing to do with Michael as a keynote speaker or WYD animator; they only show his passion for ministry. He is a man of "hope, endearment, optimism, trust and altruism," and it certainly shows every time he takes the stage or lights up a room while captivating his audiences. Just witness the first five minutes of Jammin' With Jesus or experience a session at one of his retreats. He will move you, lift you, then take you to the inner most depth of your soul. Quite simply, he will mesmerize you. Whether two people are gathered or two thousand, Michael will find a way to make the exchange meaningful and powerful. That is what he does. He may not always get up and dance, although at times he does, but believe me, you will feel the dancing inside his heart and soul from the words he delivers and the activities he engages his crowds in. Be ready to be moved. Be ready to be uplifted. Be ready to take an inward journey. Be ready to soar!
Michael V. Novak began speaking in front of groups at a very young age. In college, he was a deejay on the local radio station and his show was listened to unfailingly. He brought elements of life into his 4 hour time slot, mixing in hilarious comic routines but also talking from the heart and asking the listeners to take a good look at themselves and discover what they were all about. It was a masterful blend of great music, outrageous comedy and sincere personal interaction. It was a unique idea and during his time slot, the whole campus was glued to their radio stations to hear what Michael (nicknamed ML) was up to.
ML was always comfortable in front of a microphone. He was often asked to introduce speakers, lead a group in prayer or just give a short speech at a specific event. He always delivered, whether it was spur of the moment or if he had time to prepare.
As his life began to flourish in music and ministry and as he built a reputation, he was constantly asked to speak to other groups of adults or teens. At one point, he was hired to meet with all the youth minsters of a specific vicariate to teach them how to lead a successful youth group program. He wasn't asked to be the youth leader, he was asked to train the youth leaders. He did this by putting them through his innovative youth ministry exercises themselves then instructing them to do the same for their youth.
Michael has always been very active with youth from the U.S.A. and Canada. He became well known in Ontario as well as in Metro Detroit. His group, on the other hand, was gaining national and international recognition. At World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto, a Detroit news channel actually followed Michael's group throughout the week and documented their daily activity. Boy were they not disappointed, as Michael led his group on a clean up excursion, since the Toronto waste disposal workers had recently gone on strike. It was a moment to remember and one that the cameras caught on film. His group was not going to sit around and watch the garbage pile up, they were going to do something about it, and he was going to lead them.
While still acting as a keynote speaker in Michigan, he began expanding his horizons. He was asked to speak in Minnesota, West Virginia and other places his group had major impact on. He continuosly speaks from the heart and he is not afraid to get wild and crazy. Better yet, he knows how to get YOU to speak from your heart and get YOU to go wild and crazy, even if you may be reluctant or hesitant at first.
At four consecutive World Youth Days, Michael was asked by the United States Council of Catholic Bishops to be an animator. This consisted of greeting and introducing musical guests and bishops but also greeting and getting crowds revved up to hear and see the musical guests and bishops. He was also asked to organize the daily mass at each location he was assigned to. Each and every time, he delivered incredulously. Each and every time, he had huge impact on the crowd as a whole and each individual in attendance.
In Spain in 2011, Michael met with the USCCB officials and other animators. He was asked to stand up and explain to the new animators what works best and how an animator functions, both on and off the stage. At that meeting, when the assignments were given out, Michael was the only one who was given 3 days of animator work. Other sites were being split, some animators working 2 days, others working 1. In addition, Michael was given the largest venue on the docket. He was told to expect 500-600 people. On the very first day, the crowd reached the thousands, as they not only filled the aisle way but flooded out the door and onto the porch outside. You could hear the roar as he lifted the crowd, but you could also hear a pin drop as he calmed them for personal reflection. Later that week, as millions gathered at Cuatro Vientos for the Saturday Night vigil, Michael was walking around. He was stopped, several times, and thanked for the message he had delivered as an animator that week to the youth and adults from many different nations.
Michael V. Novak is available to speak at any event but be warned and be ready, he will take you on an emotional ride of highs and lows. His message is one of music, ministry, life, faith and hope. He will customize his presentation to your audience. He will have an impact on your gathering, just as he has had with the rest of the world. As a keynote speaker and WYD animator, he has literally transformed and changed the world through his words and actions. There is a reason why he has earned the nickname "Americano Loco." His energy is contagious and outrageous; his passion and love for the Lord is riveting; his message is pure and simple; and his plight to empower others is unbridled. He is truly a unique and dynamic individual, speaker, animator and presenter.
