Writing and publishing can be more than just rewarding, they can be the fulfillment of lifelong dreams. The process can sometimes be tedious and time consuming, but the rewards are so much greater than the struggles along the way.
It's not as difficult as it seems, especially in these times of internet communication. Whether you have an idea or concept, a manuscript or story, poetry or lyrics, it needs to be read by others.
It may be scary, I know. It wasn't long ago that I, Michael V. Novak, kept all my writing to myself, stashed away in folders and notebooks that only I was allowed to view. Occasionally, I would share a poem or idea with someone else, but fear held me back. One day, the idea was presented to me to collect my poems and write my stories and publish them all in books. I had always had a dream to publish poems, short stories and a novel. Upon further exploration, I realized it could be done.
In the beginning, the writing was easy and the publishing was hard. Then it seemed the opposite. Now I realize writing and publishing are both pretty easy. I can sit down and type away for hours on end. Publishing is only difficult in that, I am a perfectionist and seek absolute perfection, so a punctuation mark here or a capital letter there can make the process slow down or come to a halt. It is the editing that is the tedious and time consuming element. That is why editing for others is not part of what I do. I publish, plain and simple. I make your text become a physical object you can not only read, but look at and swell with pride that it is YOUR accomplishment.
Publishing is an amazing process that makes writers of the new millennium capable of creating finished works quite easily. Don't let fear get in the way.
